MAI-KAI BOOK TALK AND SIGNING
Aug. 5, 4 p.m. at Tacoma Cabana (728 Pacific Ave.), Tim “Swanky” Glazner, author of “Mai-Kai: History and Mystery of the Iconic Tiki Restaurant,” will be giving a multi-media presentation on the Mai-Kai restaurant and bar, a tiki bar in Fort Lauderdale that became a playground of celebrities and playboys. Glazner’s presentation includes rare video, interviews and images from his archives. He will tell the story of the creation of the Mai-Kai’s whimsical “Mystery Drink” ceremony, the amazing women who performed it and the celebrities who enjoyed it. There will be a book signing afterward.
THE NIGHT CIRCUS
Open only at night, constructed entirely in black and white and accented in hints of red, The Night Circus delights all who wander its circular paths and warm themselves at its bonfire. Although there are acrobats, fortune-tellers, bearded ladies and contortionists, the Circus of Dreams is no conventional spectacle. Some tents contain clouds, some concoctions and some future revelations. The Night Circus will open its gates at 9 p.m. on Aug. 5. For reservations go to nightcircus.vip. Admission is 21+ only. All attendees are encouraged to dress in a black and white themed costume with a splash of red, or semiformal character attire.
