Summer Science SeaCamp, with Foss Waterway Seaport and Pierce County Parks and Recreation, offers a chance to explore the worlds of the beach and sea in new ways that bring science to life. Seacamp attendees will take beach explorations and conduct science tests on what they find. There will also be boat trips and outings to environmentally diverse sites.

A history of Creative Reuse

At the preview party for the new exhibit “Make/Do: A History of Creative Reuse,” visitors will be among the first to see the WSHM’s newest exhibition featuring 180 upcycled artworks, objects, and products from throughout Washington’s history. Hear gallery talks every half hour and meet some of the featured artists and innovative makers. Objects have been curated from the Historical Society’s collection, other historical societies and organizations from across the state, and from makers and artists in Washington and Oregon. Enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and sip drinks from the no-host bar. The preview is free for members, just $15 for not-yet-members.

The annual Summer Bash 2018 Fiesta will be one to remember. Pack your snacks, blankets and lawn chairs and head to the park for a free outdoor movie for the whole family. Summer Bash – featuring Click! Mobile Movies – is a summertime tradition in Tacoma. Come celebrate summer with this free family event. There will be demos, entertainment, vendors, arts and crafts, activities, obstacle courses, games and food available for purchase. After the festivities are over, stay for our feature film “Coco” and watch the movie underneath the stars.

Family Camp at Owen Beach

Metro Parks Tacoma is opening up Owen Beach for camping this summer. Pick one of three Friday nights to camp out under the stars with your family and friends: July 13, July 27 or Aug. 24. This unique experience also includes tent space, evening snack, crafts, Ranger-led activity and a sunrise breakfast. You will need to bring tent, sleeping bag, toiletries, camp chair, flashlight, bug spray. Please leave your pets at home. Pricing: $50 for 4-person tent space; $75 for a 6-person space; $100 for an 8-person space. No online registration, please call Tacoma Nature Center (253) 404-3930 to register. Registration deadline for each campout is 4 p.m. on the Wednesday before the event.
