Elephant & Piggies’ “We are in a Play!” begins at Tacoma Musical Playhouse’s Family Theater (7116 6th Ave., Tacoma) on Saturday, Jan. 13. Gerald is an elephant: lumbering, formally attired, prone to melancholy. Piggie is perky, smiley and full of fun. Total opposites? No way! In Mo Willems’s beloved, award-winning, best-selling children’s books, Elephant Gerald and Piggie are best friends. The Monster Jam Triple Threat Series returns to the Tacoma Dome (2727 E. D St., Tacoma). Monster Jam is the world’s largest and most famous monster truck tour featuring the biggest names in monster trucks including Grave Digger, Max-D, Monster Mutt, El Toro Loco, Captain’s Curse and Blue Thunder. So, you want to build a snowman? It doesn’t have to be a snowman! Get creative and have some fun. Sprinker Recreation Center (14824 C St. S., Spanaway) is saving the zamboni snow and will dump it in the ice arena for some frozen fun! Gather your team and props for this one of a kind opportunity on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The contest is $20 per team (up to 10 people). You’ll have 45 minutes to bring your vision alive. On Monday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m., the next Creative Colloquy will take place at Black Kettle Bites and Brew (744 Market St., Tacoma). Creative Colloquy fosters the writing community in the South Sound through unique literary events and publications. Reading events occur the third Monday of every month. These readings feature authors published on the website followed by an open mic and occasional live music intermissions.
