It looks like the City of Destiny is quickly becoming a hot destination for big time wrestling. Puget Sound-based DEFY Wrestling paid a visit to the Temple Theater Grand Ballroom on Thursday, Aug. 3 and the action in the ring was even hotter than the swelter going on outside. The main event saw Tacoma’s own Shane “Swerve” Strickland successfully defend his belt against Lio Rush, in a match that sent fans home sweaty and smiling.
While it was great to see the hometown champ defend his belt, probably the best match of the night was between Jeff “Mr. Athletic” Cobb and Ethan HD. As a matter of fact, Cobb’s performance was so incredible, he was booked for the next main event in Tacoma on Thursday, Sept. 10. before DEFY 6 had come to a conclusion on this night. Cobb will be facing PCW heavyweight champion Hennigan, for what should be a monumental contest.
Flip Gordon had his hands full against Tacoma’s Mike Santiago, but in the end, he proved to be too much for the hometown grappler. Khash and Connors put together a great tag-team performance against Batboy and Drexl. The night also saw a women’s match between Cat Power and Desi Derata, and a six-person tag match between the Sexy Mexis and the Cunninghams.
DEFY 7: DEFY AND DESTROY is set for Thursday, Sept. 10 at Tacoma’s Temple Theater Grand Ballroom. Tickets range between $25 and $75 for VIP packages. Doors open at 7 p.m. The event is All Ages, with a cash/credit 21+ bar. For tickets, lineups and more information, pay a visit to http://www.defywrestling.com
