Tacoma has some exciting basketball teams hitting the hardwood this season. While most local basketball fans know all about the likes of the Lincoln Abes, Wilson Rams and Bellarmine Lions, the most potent basketball being played right now has probably not even made a blip on their radar.
The University of Puget Sound Memorial Fieldhouse has recently been playing host to the sort of basketball that can leave one dizzy in the stands, and nursing a sore neck later on. When it comes to putting the ball in the basket, nobody touched the Logger men’s basketball team this season. After jumping out to a 6-0 record to begin the season, UPS hosted two nationally-ranked foes over the Dec. 1 weekend, including the top-ranked team in the country. The Loggers would fall to Whitworth by a score of 95-84, and then dropped a 111-108 barnburner against top-ranked Whitman.
With a scoring average of 101.6 points per game, UPS Logger games should be a smoking-hot ticket when the team finally returns for a home contest against rival Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. for a capper of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. Mark your calendars now for this one.
