Following their 2-0 victory over Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 14, and their 1-0 shutout of George Fox the following day, the Pacific Lutheran men’s soccer team finds themselves within striking distance of the Northwest Conference championship trophy. With five games remaining on the schedule, the Lutes trail Willamette (6-1-2 NWC, 7-4-2 overall) by just a single point in the standings with a 6-2-1 league mark and 8-4-2 overall. Puget Sound is also still in the mix (5-3-1, 7-4-1). Historically, the winner of the NWC title gets an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. However, it’s rare to see a second-place finish earn an at-large berth into the tourney. On the women’s side, the Lutes are at the top of the standings with a 9-1-0 league mark, and 12-2-0 overall. PLU has given up just two goals the entire season.
