It hasn’t been the easiest of transition seasons for the Sounders S2. While moving to their new home at Cheney Stadium brought with it quite a bit of fanfare, it hasn’t turned into a bunch of wins in the standings for the boys in rave green. However, the young squad has been playing better over the past month, and that is a big positive for the future of S2.
On Saturday, Aug. 11, Sounders S2 were able to secure their fifth win of the season with an exciting 3-2 victory over San Antonio FC in front of 4,761 fans at Cheney Stadium.
Henry Wingo put S2 on the scoreboard in the fifth minute with a blast. Eight minutes later, the home team would be snake bit by an own goal suffered by Jesse Daley to make the score 1-1. San Antonio’s Evan Guzman would give the visitors a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 24th minute. Wingo would then strike again seconds prior to the halftime whistle to send the teams into the locker rooms knotted at 2-2.
With 22 minutes left in the match, Shannon Hopeau slapped a left-footed blast from outside of the box, and found the left corner of the net to give S2 a 3-2 lead. The S2 defense would put San Antonio on lockdown for the remainder of the match to preserve the win.
