As summer picks up speed and school is definitely out for summer, many parents can quickly find themselves in a childcare bind. Whether it’s traditional day care, summer camp or something else, these options are still readily available to the parents of Tacoma’s younger set. But act fast, as spots are filling up quickly.
If your little one is dramatically inclined, look no further than Tacoma Youth Theater. Tacoma Youth Theater has multiple day camps with spaces still open for this summer. The remaining productions start out with “Young King Arthur,” which begins July 9, then move on to “Peter Pan,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Snow Queen,” “Sleeping Beauty” and finally “The Jungle Book,” which will begin Aug. 20. Camps are available in both full and half-day forms by calling (253) 677-0531. Full production dates are available at tacomayouththeatre.blogspot.com.
If none of those productions spark your child’s inner artist then make sure to check out Tacoma Musical Playhouse. They are still accepting registrations for their Summer Break Camps. Available camps include productions of “The Music Man” and “Junie B. Jones” for children in first–fifth grade, and “The Addams Family” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie” for the 12-18-year-olds. Prices vary and are all available at tmp.org/index.php/summer-break-camptmp-2018.
Metro Parks has the most complete list of options, with day cares and programs available in everything from culinary arts, to cheerleading, to rock band camp. At least 15 different camps are still available for registration at metroparkstacoma.org/camps. Prices vary and most camps run four to five days with some requiring a deposit for registration. All Tacoma area YMCA’s still have available spots in extended care, half and full day camps, as well as specific sport related programs. For a full list of what your local YMCA has to offer, go to ymcapkc.org/camp-1/summer where you can also directly register for all available camps on the website.
Many of the available camps for the summer are already full and filling up fast. To register your child today, call any of the listed numbers or visit the above websites.
