Throughout February, the City of Tacoma’s Planning staff is conducting open houses in support of the 2019 amendments to the One Tacoma: Comprehensive Plan and Land Use regulations. A primary focus of these discussions will be the Future Land Use Implementation project and potential area-wide rezones. These open houses are an opportunity for community members to learn about the changes that are proposed, about how the review process works and how to get involved. Participants can also help staff identify issues to consider during the review process. An open house is scheduled for Council district.
The first will be for District 2. It will take place on Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Stadium High School, located at 111 N. E St. Kicking off will be Councilmember Robert Thoms. This meeting will focus on the following areas: Norpoint Way Northeast and Stadium District.
Next will be an open house for District 3. It will take place on Feb. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Asia Pacific Cultural Center, located at 4851 South Tacoma Way. Councilmember Keith Blocker will begin the conversation. This meeting will focus on the following areas: 6th Avenue and South 12th Street.
The third meeting will be for District 5. It will take place on Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club at the STAR Center, located at 3875 S. 66th St. #101. Kicking things off will be Councilmember Chris Beale. This meeting will focus on the following areas: South 56th Street and South M Street, Mt. Tahoma, and Wapato Lake/South Alaska Street.
The fourth open house will be for District 1. It will take place on Feb. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Geiger Elementary School, located at 7401 S. 8th St. Councilmember Anders Ibsen will begin the conversation. This meeting will focus on the following areas: Point Defiance Business District, Narrows, North 34th Street and North Proctor Street, and 6th Avenue.
The final open house will be for District 4. It will take place on Feb. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Stewart Middle School, located at 5101 Pacific Ave. Kicking things off will be Councilmember Catherine Ushka. The meeting will focus on the following areas: South 35th Street and South Wright Avenue, South 56th Street and South M Street, South End “Overlooks,” and East Portland Avenue.
