The Tacoma Rescue Mission invites you to partner with us this year to create a safe haven where vulnerable, homeless women from our community can escape the streets and begin rebuilding their lives, for themselves and those they love.
Please come alongside other fellow community leaders to make a life-saving difference for homeless women in our community who have nowhere else to go. Take a stand for homeless women throughout Pierce County by attending the HopeGivers Luncheon on March 24 and becoming a part of this important solution. Help us offer God’s help, hope and healing to the most impoverished members of our community.
The Mission has begun construction on a new 12,000 square-foot, 50-120 bed shelter for homeless women in our community. The county estimates there are 500-600 women experiencing homelessness in Pierce County at any given time with only 55 shelter spots available. Anywhere from 40-50 homeless women are turned away from shelter each night and are left on their own to survive. A recent study reported that 52 percent of women surveyed were either sexually or physically assaulted during their current experience of homelessness. They need our help. The Mission expects to shelter and assist 300-400 homeless, unaccompanied women annually.
Along with shelter and meals, women will have access to expert case management, housing and employment services, education, mental health, legal services and more to help them overcome the challenges that have contributed to their homelessness. Help us provide these women with a pathway home where they can have a real chance to begin again.
