When looking for a new place to enjoy lunch or dinner, Herfy’s Burger, Teriyaki and Wok should be at the top of your list. Located in the Spanaway Village shopping mall at 15619 Pacific Ave. S., this location just opened this past summer after being a very popular go-to spot in downtown Tacoma for many years.
The menu is packed with selections from America to China and Japan: nearly two-dozen varieties of burgers; hot dogs, kielbasa and French dip; seafood baskets; barbecue; salads; sandwiches and wraps; teriyaki; wok choices; soups; shakes, floats and bubble tea.
Owner Jae Hong has been the proprietor of numerous restaurants during his 40 years as an entrepreneur and businessman, including CEO of Herfy’s. He has since sold off his Herfy’s locations and now is focusing his energies on the Spanaway location. Known by customers for his very friendly nature, Hong’s affable ways bring customers back as much as the delicious food he serves.
The burgers alone are worth the trip – a nice, plump, charbroiled patty with all the traditional toppings: ketchup, mayo, mustard, lettuce, onion, pickle and tomato. If you want to be adventurous, try the “Peanut Butter Burger,” the “Fried Chicken Burger with Bacon” or the one-pound “Giant Burger.” Make it a meal combo with any burger for $3.99 – comes with regular fries and regular soft drink. Upgrade to a milkshake for $2 more – there are nearly 30 flavors to choose from.
Portion size is important to Hong and his crew, so you won’t go away hungry by any means. Seafood baskets offer choices between cod, halibut or salmon, oysters and more. There’s teriyaki, poke and stir-fry bowls, nearly a dozen selections from the Chinese wok, fried rice dishes and classic side orders like onion rings, fried zucchini, jalapeno poppers and chili cheese fries.
Herfy’s is perfect for families of any size. Dinner combinations are available to feed a range from two persons (which includes teriyaki chicken, Mongolian beef or teriyaki beef, and barbecue pork) to nine persons (teriyaki chicken, Mongolian beef or teriyaki beef, and barbecue pork, orange chicken or sesame chicken, General Tso’s chicken, beef short ribs, baby back ribs, chicken katsu, shrimp fried rice, fried wonton, stir-fried vegetables, pea scallop and egg rolls).
Herfy’s Burger, Teriyaki and Wok is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 8 a.m. For more information or to phone in your order, call (253) 267-5526. Also be sure and check out their website for the complete Herfy’s menu and prices: www.herfysburgers.com.
