December was the month of giving for Tacoma Elks #174

December was a full month of giving for Tacoma Elks #174. It all started on Sunday, Dec. 1 as the Elks participated in the 6th Avenue parade. Our “Santa” and his team were part of the parade that has grown every year.

After pausing to celebrate with a party of our members and their families, we went right back into giving for the community. Working with Toys For Tots and the local support agency, our location became a distribution point for giving out over 5,000 toys to families who would not otherwise have a good Christmas.

We also visited the local women’s abuse center to bring toys, Santa and magician to these women and their kids so they could celebrate Christmas in style. The evening ended with passing out presents.

Finally, we made a visit to the local Rescue Mission. The picture shows several of our Lodge officers and employees making the first delivery of around 400 turkeys and 50 hams just in time for Christmas.

It was a wonderful finish to the year and the Tacoma Elks will be looking forward to helping the community even more in 2020.

If you want to be a part of this wonderful organization devoted to serving the community, our youth and our veterans, please stop by our Lodge at 2013 S. Cedar St, call us (253) 277-1117 or email the Lodge at lee@tacomaelks.com. We can always use YOU!

$1,000 winner at Bingo

The new year started out on a winning streak. On Monday, Jan. 6, our first Bingo session of the year, we had a player win the main prize of $1,000. The picture shows Gerda Knapp, along with the Bingo caller Ernie Bodoh, holding the big winning check.

We play every Monday night in the Elks Lodge Room at 2013 S. Cedar St. Card sales start at 6 p.m. with the first of 12 games starting at 7 p.m. We are usually done just after 9 p.m. This is a family friendly environment with everyone having a great time. Come see for yourself.
