2018 Chuseok Festival showcases Korean culture

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle and Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC) will hold the 2018 Chuseok Festival at the Rialto Theater (310 S. 9th St., Tacoma) on Sept. 21, 7 p.m. The Chuseok Festival is sponsored by Korea Foundation and presented by Kkocdooseh, a Korean traditional performing arts troupe.

Chuseok, literally “autumn eve,” is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in North Korea and South Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar on the full moon. Like many other harvest festivals around the world, it is held around the autumn equinox, i.e. at the very end of summer or in early autumn.

As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional foods and rice wines.

The Consulate General and APCC believe that the event will serve to deepen the bonds of friendship between Korea and the local people in the state of Washington. It also provides an excellent opportunity to present Korean traditional culture to local people. The attendance by the people of Washington State will be most deeply appreciated.

Kkocdooseh will give a non-stop, high energy and beautiful performance. This event is a must see by the whole family. It is fun, highly athletic and the energy is amazing.

There are only 738 seats, and the event is free. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please contact Asia Pacific Cultural Center for free tickets. Visit http://www.asiapacificculturalcenter.org or call (253) 383-3900.
