Mother nature proved to be cooperative for Tacoma’s celebration of First Night without rain and with relatively mild temperatures. Folks headed to the Theater District to ring in the New Year by attending musical performances by a couple dozen bands at several venues. Out on the streets, honk bands and other street performers provided a festive ambience to the night. Both kids and adults were able to participate in a variety of activities, like the treacherous walk through a river of ice. To welcome in the “Year of the Dog,” there was even a race of human-drawn dog sleds.
