An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until December 21, 2017
Small works of art encourage us to get up close and personal with each piece. Once we are drawn in we are often surprised by the unexpected. That is one of the inspirations behind the Vashon Center for the Arts Koch Gallery 11th Annual Masters in Miniature Exhibition. The exhibition will showcase works by over 30 Island artists. Mediums will include wood, painting, mixed media, photography, fiber, clay and more — with one catch, all pieces must be under 36 square inches for 2-D work and no bigger than 6”x 6” x 6” for 3-D work. Each artist will show one to five pieces.
The show is an invitational started in 2007 by co-curators Janice Mallman and Carol Schwennesen and their legacy will continue on to its 11th Season with co-curators, Devin Grimm and Carol Schwennesen who have collaborated to select the talented group of Vashon on artists displayed in this year’s exhibition.
“As the Masters in Miniature exhibition approaches, I find myself pondering the power of small artworks. Within them they contain vast universes. A treasury storehouse of human options, this show presents icons in which the large is contained in the small – like a seed,” says Carol Schwennesen.
First time participants in the Miniature Show are: Molly O’Brien, Brian Dempsey, Nile Fahmy, Ann Leda Shapiro, Meredith Neal Pickerel, Devin Grimm and Gunter Reimnitz.
