New Horions for Pacific Northwest History–A New Role in Ecology

Monterey-Cannery historian Michael Kenneth Hemp presents a Shelton/Hood Canal premier archival PowerPoint presentation of new Pacific Northwest research on significant contributions to Ecology by pioneering marine biologist (and closest friend of John Steinbeck) Edward F. “Doc” Ricketts and his springs and summers of the 1930s exploring Puget Sound and the PNW in revolutionizing marine biology and introducing Ecology. Also, Croatian boat-building connections to Monterey’s Sicilian sardine fleet, the 1940 “Sea of Cortez” voyage to Mexico’s Gulf of California, “Log From the Sea of Cortez” by John Steinbeck and the saga of the Western Flyer (in restoration at Port Townsend). Book signing and community history roundtable to follow event. History, literally…in the making. Admission Free at Mason Country Historical Society Museum, 427 W.
