For most people, an intense workday might be filled with meetings, unexpected and difficult assignments, and working long hours. But, every year, a handful of workers in Washington are in the right place at the right time, and they do the right thing to help save a life.
This week, 30 Washington workers will be honored for reacting to emergencies and saving lives during their workdays. The Governor’s Lifesaving Awards will be presented at the annual Governor’s Safety and Health Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Each story is compelling. In one case, three Port of Tacoma patrol officers, along with a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer, responded when a distraught woman climbed an overpass railing and appeared ready to leap to the busy highway below. After several harrowing moments, the four officers sprang into action and pulled the woman back to safety as she began to let go.
