The City of Tacoma has started work on Phase 2 of the Lincoln District Streetscape Project. This phase started the week of July 23, and is expected to run through October 2018. Construction is taking place on South Yakima Avenue from South 38th to South 39th streets and has closed this block of Yakima to parking and traffic.
Work will be suspended from November 2018 until January 2019 at which time a festival lighting system will then be installed. Pedestrian and business access is being maintained during construction, and it is anticipated the road will reopen during the project suspension. This is the final phase of the streetscape and involves the creation of a pedestrian friendly street that can be closed to traffic and used for community events throughout the year.
Phase 1 of the project focused on South 38th Street in the Lincoln Business District and is nearing completion as road paving and striping is complete, sidewalks are now open and all traffic signals are operational. Lanes on South 38th Street will still be closed periodically by crews to complete the final stages of construction.
Phase 1 and 2 are the cornerstone of the Lincoln Revitalization Project. Key features of the streetscape include roadway, sidewalk, public art and pedestrian infrastructure improvements.
