Tacoma-Pierce County Health Dept.

Your health and our staff’s health are our top priorities. Everyone in Pierce County needs to practice social distancing during the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s why we are suspending most in-person services at our office now through March 30. We will keep you updated as we reassess the situation.
We will still provide our essential services. Our methadone clinic and vital records office remain open. The Pierce County Auditor’s office removed its staff from our vital records office last week.
Our essential services staff will follow best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including handwashing and social distancing in the office.

Many services are available online. Staff will work remotely to serve your needs, but you will experience slower-than-normal response times for some requests. Many of our services are available online: septic systems, report a foodborne illness or food-safety complaint, see food inspection reports, order a birth or death certificateand report problems

For all other services, visit our website at tpchd.org for more information.

Do you need to talk to someone? Give us a call during normal business hours. These staff members won’t be able to answer COVID-19 related questions:

  • Environmental Health services: (253) 798-6470
  • Vital Records: (253) 798-6418
  • Food establishment operators: (253) 798-4711
  • Food safety: (253) 798-6460

If you have COVID-19 questions, the Washington State Department of Health’s call center is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Call (800) 525-0127 and press #.

For non-health COVID-19 issues like business support, planning or general questions, call (855) 722-5378.
