Fife police give update on shooting investigation


On May 13 the Fife Police Department was dispatched to a report of a male subject down in a parking lot. The caller informed 911 that the subject was not moving. Officers arrived on scene and discovered a male subject laying in the parking lot located on the southeast corner of Pacific Highway East and Willow Street. Tacoma Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that the male was deceased. The death is being investigated as a homicide. The Metro Pierce Cooperative Cities Crime Response Unit is conducting this investigation.

Twelve minutes before the call of the man-down, Fife Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Willow Street for a report of a single gunshot heard in the area. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the source of the shots or any victims in that area.

Detectives have processed the scene and conducted a canvas of the area surrounding the crime scene, looking for anyone who saw or heard anything.

Investigators have been unable to identify the victim at this time. The victim is an African American male, late teens to early twenties. He was wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants and blue shoes. The victim wore his hair in braids.

There is no suspect information at this time. The Fife Police Department would urge our residents to be vigilant and to report any and all suspicious incidents to 911.
