CHI Franciscan will waive co-pays federal workers during shutdown

CHI Franciscan has announced that the medical system is waiving all co-pays and deductibles for emergency care, urgent care, and outpatient clinics for federal employees and their families during the partial government shutdown.

“There are thousands of individuals in our region who are affected by the federal government shutdown who are not only experiencing employment uncertainty but could be avoiding needed medical care because of financial hardship,” CHI Franciscan CEO Ketul J. Patel said in an announcement. “We don’t want the shutdown to be a barrier for people and their families to access the care they need.”

In light of the federal government shutdown, thousands of federal employees throughout the country have been furloughed without pay. Locally, at Sea-Tac Airport alone, 2,000 federal workers are working without pay.

To help federal workers and the families, CHI Franciscan is waiving the co-pays and deductibles for federal workers and their families who need care at all 11 acute care hospitals, 200 primary clinics, and seven CityMD locations. Federal employees need to simply bring their federally-issued I.D. and sign a form to prove they or their dependent are affected by the furlough.
