Goings on this week in Tacoma:
The Annual Post Defiance Winter Reading
Sun., Dec. 10, 7 p.m.
Old Post Office, 1102 A St., Ste. 420, Tacoma
Empathos Company and Post Defiance are delighted to celebrate the season by hosting the annual Winter Reading in a new downtown location.
This intimate, storytelling event brings together friends and strangers to share original and published works inspired by the season (a little like a salon, a little like NPR’s “The Moth” or “Selected Shorts”).
Stories and their telling can be transformative — empowering readers and listeners to become engaged and compassionate. This Winter Reading will champion stories that represent diverse experiences and perspectives. This is an opportunity to bring a story into the light that has been overlooked, unheard, repressed, or silenced. Post Defiance encourages participants to act courageously and openly with respect for the knowledge and experience of others.
Thanks to the generous host, Chevi Chung of Empathos, there is room for an audience of about 40 and a program of about 20 readings. If you would like to attend and/or read at the event, please rsvp to Katy at email@example.com.
Share the selection you’d like to read and we’ll do our best to accommodate all who wish to participate.
The stories you choose to read aloud can range from the comedic, to the tragic, to the heartwarming, to the eerie; the only rules are that each reading somehow includes the theme of winter, and a selection can be read out loud in about five minutes.
Please bring a snack and beverage to share.
Recommended age for attending: 14+. Stories can include language, adult situations, and violence.
