Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives are hoping a robbery suspect’s bizarre behavior will help somebody identify him. He was armed with a knife and wearing a black plastic mask with “GOD” written on it when he entered the Express Grocery in South Hill to steal some smokes back in November. The clerk asked him to remove the mask and he complied with her request, which exposed his face for the surveillance camera.
“We’re very concerned because he came in with the mask and then took it off so now he knows we know what he looks like. He armed himself with a knife and went behind the counter so this is more than just a theft of cigarettes or shoplifting. This has turned into a robbery,” said Pierce County Sheriff’s Det. Ed Troyer.
The suspect is described as white, tall and lanky with dark, scruffy hair. He wore baggy black pants or sweatpants that looked like they were ready to fall down and a bright teal-colored shirt that stuck out from underneath a black sweatshirt that appears to have a white North Face logo on the back right shoulder.
If you know his name, call Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County at 1 (800) 222-TIPS (8477). You will receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest and charges in the case. All calls are anonymous.
