Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help to find level III sex offender Dwight Earl Thomas. The 49-year-old was released from jail last month and has failed to register at the sheriff’s department as he is required by law to do. Thomas was convicted in 1993 of rape in the third degree. According to court documents, he sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman.
“This is a subject who has many aliases and knows how to hide. He has extensive criminal background – not only for not registering as a sex offender, but for robberies, stealing cars, assaulting people, and his rape was actually pretty severe. He choked a woman to unconsciousness. She tried to flee out the backdoor and he threatened to kill her,” said Pierce County Sheriff’s Det. Ed Troyer.
Thomas has been convicted four times for failure to register as a sex offender. Each conviction sends him back behind bars for longer periods of time. The most recent was in 2013. Detectives say he has refused sex offender treatment. “He has failed to participate in rehab programs or admit to what he’d done wrong in order for psychologists and other people to determine that he would not be a danger to society so we’re trying to get him picked up and identify where he’s at and who he’s with. If he’s somewhere he shouldn’t be, he could be held accountable,” said Troyer.
Thomas is 5-feet, 10-inches tall, 220 pounds with graying black hair and brown eyes. If you know where deputies can find him, call Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County at 1 (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or use the P3 Tips App on your smart phone. It is anonymous and there’s a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest. This is one of the cases being featured this weekend on Washington’s Most Wanted airing Friday at 11 p.m. on Q13 FOX and Saturday night at 9:30 on JOEtv and 10:30 on Q13 FOX.
