Tacoma Arts Commission funds 27 community art projects

The Tacoma Arts Commission recently awarded $96,000 in arts projects funding to 27 Tacoma organizations in support of 2020 public outreach projects in the fields of culture, dance, fashion, film, literary, music, theater, visual, and cross-disciplinary arts.

“We are so excited to financially support the varied programming that is going on throughout Tacoma in 2020,” said Tacoma Arts Commission Chair Heather Conklin. “Each of the funded projects works with different parts of our community, in wonderfully engaging ways.”

Funded projects include the production of nine cultural and arts festivals; one film festival; five visual arts, culture, and music education programs; two dance workshop series and performances; four music performance series; three literary arts workshops and performances; and three community engagement events.

Funding was awarded as follows:

  • Asia Pacific Cultural Center: 22nd Annual Asia Pacific New Year Celebration featuring Vietnam – $6,000
  • Barefoot Collective: Expanding Modern Dance Communities – $3,000
  • Bates Technical College: Family Paint Nights – $3,000
  • Centro Latino: Latin Arts and Youth Expressions – $3,000
  • Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation: Tacoma Moon Festival – $3,000
  • Destiny City Film Festival: 2020 Destiny City Film Festival – $3,000
  • Fab-5: Black Artists Meetup + Showcase – $6,000
  • Greentrike (Children’s Museum of Tacoma): Art Sparks – $3,000
  • Hilltop Artists: Bringing glass art education to public audiences in Tacoma – $6,000
  • King’s Bookstore: Tacoma Wayzgoose: Letterpress and Book Arts Extravaganza – $3,000
  • KnownFor Solutions: Wandering Locals: Eight Neighborhoods. One tour. On a bike. – $3,000
  • Latinx Unidos Del South Sound: Festival Latinx 2020 –$3,000
  • McKinley Hill Street Fair: McKinley Hill Street Fair –$6,000
  • Metropolitan Glass: The Monkeyshine Project – $3,000

  • Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center – Harriet: The Black Swan – $6,000
  • Tacoma Youth Symphony Association – Season Finales: 2019-20 Season – $3,000
  • Ted Brown Music Outreach: Live It OutLoud 2020 – $3,000
  • Washington State Historical Society: In the Spirit 2020 – $3,000
  • Write253: Louder Than a Bomb – Tacoma Teen Poetry Festival – $3,000 

The Arts Projects Funding Program supports community projects with a strong focus on arts that are accessible and affordable to the public.
