Gig Harbor is in for a spectacular music event this summer: Nine non-stop hours of stunning national, regional and local talent offering up a massive variety of rhythm and blues in a beautiful outdoor setting.

The event takes place Aug. 12 from noon until 9 p.m. on the Gig Harbor Sportsman’s Club grounds located at 9721 Burnham Dr. NW in Gig Harbor.

Surrounded by fir trees, it offers a level grass field with local vendors, food, beer garden and great music. Generous parking (with attendants) is on the same level ground, allowing easy access for all.

For the last 25 years, this event has operated as the Old Town Blues Festival in Tacoma, one of the best attended events in our area. With the continued growth, and an effort to make each succeeding year better, a new location was inevitable. Event organizers are pleased that they’ve been able to bring it home to Gig Harbor.

As in the past, the festival is intended to raise tens of thousands of dollars for many worthy 501c3 non-profit organizations while showcasing an outstanding offering of remarkable talent. The festival continues to partner with Permission to Start Dreaming, a nonprofit organization that was created in Gig Harbor to support solders who return home suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Event coordinator Michael Mitchell, having retired from promoting concerts for more than 50 years, continues to recognize unique and talented music groups. He now organizes special and unique events such as this, most of which support non-profit charity organizations. “I want this to be such an outstanding event that Gig Harbor will be talking about it months afterward,” says Mitchell.
