Pierce Conservation District hosts vegetable and poultry farm walk

Join Pierce Conservation District for a visit to an 11-acre vegetable and poultry farm just five miles from downtown Tacoma. This farm deals with water limitations due to poor drainage and poor access to water. Come learn how they’ve worked around these issues and what you can do on your farm. In addition, Pierce Conservation District will be teaching visitors about the farm’s pastured poultry operation and how it complements their diverse vegetable operation. Finally, this producer recently took advantage of a USDA Rural Development Rural Energy Assistance Program grant to install solar power on the farm. Come learn about that program and how Pierce Conservation District can help you manage farm energy more efficiently.

A Pierce Tilth group pizza and salad social will follow immediately after the farm tour. Come for both the tour and dinner, or feel free to join just for the Pierce Tilth portion. A $5 per person donation is requested towards the purchase of pizza.

The farm tour takes place Thursday, Sept. 13, 5-7 p.m. For information on location and to RSVP, call (253) 845-9770 ext. 132 or email AlisonN@piercecd.org. For information, visit piercecd.org.
