Sweet things to eat are the culinary equivalent of all the colorful lights and the bright carols of the holiday season. The building of gingerbread houses and the baking of holiday cookies are a vital part of the total sensory experience of the winter holidays.
Between now and Christmas, there is no lack of events that are centered on making gingerbread houses and other treats that are as much holiday ornament as they are dessert. If you have a sweet tooth, here are some activities that you might consider participating in:
Through Jan. 2
Courtyard by Marriott Tacoma Downtown, 1515 Commerce St.
The Gingerbread Showcase is a community event presented by Rebuilding Together South Sound in the lobby of the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Tacoma. Displayed from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, gingerbread landmarks created by local bakers and culinary students from Tacoma Public Schools, showcase the history and flavor of Tacoma.
A new, festive activity for families to enjoy during the holiday season, the Gingerbread Showcase is a collaboration between Rebuilding Together South Sound, its partners, and the Tacoma Public Schools. With the intention of becoming an annual event, and partnering with the Children’s Museum’s Gingerbread Jamboree, it is hoped that you will take time out of your busy holiday season to stop by, enjoy the creations and learn more about Rebuilding Together South Sound.
