The Cartoonists League of Absurd Washingtonians (CLAW) is hosting their first ever CLAW fest at Feast Arts Center (1402 S 11th St., Tacoma) on Sunday, Aug. 26 beginning 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the CLAW Artist Guild at the first of what is planned to be an annual mini comic book convention/craft festival with booths and artist alley tables and local artists selling their cool merchandise or “merch.” CLAW members, along with a few chosen friends of CLAW, will have booths featuring illustration, comics, zines, prints, sculpture and more.

There will be a make-your-own button station, a puppet show, caricatures, chalk art, thrift store painting demos and a raffle to support the CLAW Scholarship. This is a family friendly event and 100 percent free to attend.

Featured artists and vendors: Mark Monlux; Russ Richards Art; RR Anderson of Tinkertopia; Colin Anderson; Anique Zimmer; Corey Macourek of Lit’l Friends; “Brillustrator” Mark Brill; Jennevieve Schlemmer of Short Leg Studio; Nori Kimura of Monkey 3 Productions and Joseph Brooks. More vendors may be added.

The CLAW bill itself as a clandestine network of professional Northwest cartoonists founded and ultimately concentrated in the south Puget Sound region. Their stated mission is to gather talented Washington State cartoonists of great skill and humongous egos in frequently secluded gatherings during which the secrets and mystic arts of their sublime craft are practiced. Behind closed doors and away from prying eyes, the most pointless and silly of rituals will be freely indulged. The group also give a scholarship to an art student every year.
