Join Classical Tuesdays in Old Townon Tuesday, Jan. 14 for an evening of fresh sounds and images for the New Year.
TORCH, a Seattle-based contemporary chamber ensemble (trumpet, clarinet, vibes, and bass), performs original and experimental compositions. Ensemble members are Brian Chin, trumpet; Eric Likkel, clarinets; Steve Schermer, double bass; and Ben Thomas, vibes, percussion, collaborate with a variety of creative, socially conscious artists.
In addition, Scott Kolbojoins TORCH in a presentation of his “Passages,” a multi-media event featuring an animated film projected on stage and a live performance of composed music by the chamber quartet TORCH. The work comments on contemporary anxieties about security and immigration through six circular loops of imagery and sound, with a heavy emphasis on slapstick humor and absurdity. The piece also tells an inspiring story about resilience and hope in the face of historical tragedy and ecological crisis.
This all ages event begins at 7 p.m. at Slavonian Hall, 2306 N. 30th St., Old Town Tacoma. Admission is free. Find entry and parking in the alley for those who require easier access
