Multiple Grammy Award winner and American Music Award’s Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist 2010 Michael Bublé performed to his last U.S. audience at “An Evening with Michael Buble’” tour in the Tacoma Dome on April 6. This was his largest audience stateside, with more than 18,000 adoring fans.
Bublé left music recording and performing in 2015 due to his son Noah’s diagnosis of cancer with no intention of Bublé returning. Two years later, his now 5-year-old son was declared cancer free and Bublé recorded his “Love” album supporting his sixth tour.
A “crooner” is defined as a singer, typically a male, who sings sentimental songs in a soft, low voice. With the days gone by, the music of timeless acts like Perry Como, Bing Crosby and the Rat Pack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. is only in existence in recordings. When Bublé decided to go back on tour, the thought was that people either would remember him or the arenas would be empty. However, the perpetual, undying and everlasting love of this genre had marked a place for Bublé’s continued success and return to his adoring fans.
With his full orchestra performing impeccably, Bublé charmed his audience with humility and humor garnering his humanity and genuineness. He told the audience that he does what he does best (“Be nice and be bubbly.),” and that family, faith, love and relationships are what are important to him.
During the show, he expressed that he loves to do what he does and sing to 18,000 people and asked if anyone else would like to sing to the crowd. That’s when he found 17-year-old Ben Fagerstedt, who blew everyone away with his sultry voice.
Bublé sat on the stage and sang a fantastic cover of Frank Sinatra’s “Under my Skin” with the happy teenager. Prior to the encore, Bublé flashed a “Thank you Tacoma” sign on the screen and, while choking back tears, spoke of his son’s cancer and the love and support he had received. Bublé is back!
