“BEING. DOING. KNOWING. (BDK)” is a three-part filmed exploration of Blackness in Tacoma. Produced by the January Group in collaboration with Colemon & Associates, its purpose is to serve as an artistic statement about the humanity of Black people, drive broad reaching patronage toward Tacoma’s Black businesses, and grant room to consider Black history and Black future in TacomaA. Directed by Darryl Crews with original spoken word written and performed by Isaiah Hunt.
“BDK” is being filmed and released throughout the summer and fall of 2020 between the Black liberation holiday of Juneteenth and culminating during Tacoma Arts Month in October. Each episode of the three-part series of “BDK” will be released in sequence from August – October. The three segments will then be made into a short film that includes the full series.
Powered by Tacoma Creates, this series amplifies Black voice, Black personhood and centers the means through which the city (both as a collective populace and a municipal entity) can help Black people progress in Tacoma.
