On the last Friday of every month, Artful Dreamers Studio (2926 S. Steele St.) opens it doors to all women seeking to connect with other women and express themselves creatively through art projects – and no art experience is required.

Owner Nadine Hamil, who moved to Tacoma from Florida five years ago where she also had an art studio, launched the Circle of Creative Women in 2010 and has enjoyed its success immensely.

“I created the Circle of Creative Women because I want women to have a place to create art in a community setting, feeling comfortable, wanted and encouraged creatively,” she said. “Women come tired after a long week and leave energized and even giggly!”

As Hamil tells it so eloquently, “Circles have been used throughout centuries to represent limitless possibilities. Love with no beginning and no end. A symbol of power, strength, hope, dreams, honor and community. Circles are alive – ever expanding and contracting, blending and balancing, inviting and loving. It is through Circles that you can give and receive, interact and witness, engage and inspire.”

Hamil has worked to foster a relaxing atmosphere where women of the “creative tribe” are invited to tap into their intuition, imagination and creativity, with an emphasis on sisterhood and having fun (you can even BYOB if you like), nourishing the spirit through artistic expression in a warm, loving circle.

“There is an artist in each of us,” Hamil believes. “Sharing our experiences widens and opens us up to celebrate the connection we all have to one other and to life.”

Over the years, the Creative Circle of Women have made all kinds of wonderful art – mosaics, paintings collages, wind chimes, up-cycled aluminum cans into flowers, collaged matchboxes, art journals and much more. When the Circle meets again this month on Friday, March 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m., the theme will be “Free Style Creative Time” where women can use their imagination to paint, use multi-media materials, stencils, stamp, and play on hard canvas. All supplies are provided, and those attending may bring anything they may wish to add to the creative process.

The cost is very reasonable at $15 a class. Women attending must be 14 years or older, and registration is required to ensure that the correct supplies are available. Visit www.ArtfulDreamers.com or call (253) 209-4706. Artful Dreamers Studio offers many more creative opportunities for the public, including “Let’s Paint an Apron” (March 30), “Creative Spring Art Day for Kids” (April 4), “Open Studio” (April 20), “Upcycle Creative Camp” (June 24) and more, with details available on the website.

“I like to think of myself as a kindred soul, full of sparkle and glitter, a pillar of light and laughter, a nurturer, goddess and sister of Earth, and…a fairy godmother,” says Hamil. “Friendships are made at Artful Dreamers Studio. That makes my heart very happy.”
