Creative Colloquy lures readers and writers out of hiding to connect and conspire. Imbibe in roasted bean concoctions, craft brews and vino varietals as you listen to writers narrate their tales. The group’s next event is scheduled for Mon., Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at Black Kettle Bites and Brew, 744 Market St., Tacoma.

In celebration of the holiday season, Creative Colloquy will be introducing “Creative Colloquy Volume Four.” Come and connect with the local wordsmiths and artists who helped craft this print collection and snag a copy to stuff the stocking of that favorite bibliophile in your life.

Books will be $20 (discounts available for those in the book or interested in buying other volumes in accompaniment).

Featured lineup on Dec. 18 will highlight a few storytellers who contributed to the new issue: Linda Norlander, Jonah Barrett, Kristy Gledhill, Sam Snoek-Brown and Cathy Warner.

There will also be a live music intermission provided by the extraordinary songstress, Maureen Parker.

Come early to sign up for the open mic. Space will be limited for this occasion. Bring your short stories, novel excerpts, essays and poems to share and please keep in mind open mic allows scribes five minutes of stage time when choosing your piece. This time limit is firm. The evening of festivities will include five featured readers followed by open mic opportunities.

Creative Colloquy was founded in February 2014 with the intention of fostering relationships built upon the mutual admiration of the written word and providing a platform to highlight literary talent in the South Sound.

Creative Colloquy does this in a number of ways, including the online literary site focused on short fiction, novel excerpts and essays but also including poetry and other prose penned by writers who reside in the Pacific Northwest. Creative Colloquy also boasts an annual print literary review and occasional audio collections like, Valentine’s Day Massacre at the Narwhal. Collections like these can be expected throughout the year to encourage local scribes to become both engaged and invested in the local creative culture and to share their words with a welcoming audience.

Reading events occur the third Monday of every month at Black Kettle Bites and Brew in Tacoma. These readings feature authors published on the website followed by an open mic and occasional live music intermissions. The gatherings aim to lure writers out from the solitary activity of writing itself to connect with like minds and fuel inspiration and love of their craft.

The Creative Colloquy team is a deeply passionate but dedicated crew of writers themselves who invest countless hours and resources into these efforts to help promote the talented scribes in the area. Other special events are coordinated on a case-by-case basis, always keeping their vision in mind, ultimately to function as a platform to help the literary culture flourish and gain a sense of community.
