FASHIONISTA. The “Purge” fashion event will showcase the latest trends in lingerie, shoes and dresses like this one from top designer Stop Staring!

Vixens House of Shoes and Apparel has what promises to be a scintillating event planned for Feb. 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. To showcase the latest styles found on the racks and on the shelves at Vixens, owners Ondia and Sam Shapiro will present an evening fashion show of lingerie, dresses, shoes and accessories, art, music and cocktails called “Purge.”

“Purge” is not about your typical Valentine’s Day sentiments, however. “We want people to cleanse…purge…get rid of excess baggage,” Ondia said. In other words, perhaps, free yourself of conventional restraint and bring your sexy back through fashionable, and sometimes daring, wearable goodies of all kinds.

Seven ‘til Midnight will be the featured lingerie designer, and Mavi Marketing will display handmade leather products, from bracelets to purses to corsets made in Mavi Marketing’s signature styles. Vixens is Mavi Marketing’s only Tacoma retailer. Shoe lines will include designers like Poetic License, Stop Staring, Betty Page and Sharron Max. Ondia said the models will be “all local girls,” some of whom she has used in past fashion shows and others who saw the “Purge” flyer and volunteered to walk.

In addition to featuring fashion designers, the evening will be dedicated to other artists as well. The walls of Vixens will display works created by local artists including those associated with Speakeasy Art Cooperative such as Jada Moon, who is also preparing to show some of her original wearable accessories – jewelry and arm warmers with a “heart on your sleeve” motif. “I’m also thinking about doing an art piece using photos of me and old flames,” she said, perfect for the occasion. A henna artist who often plies her trade at Mad Hat Tea Co., learn more about Moon’s mad skills at http://www.BlessedHenna.com.

“Purge” starts off with several cocktail choices being served at 8 p.m. courtesy of MASA (cash only), which will also host an after-party following “Purge.” DJ Dan with South Sound Collective will provide music. The fashion show starts at 9 p.m.

“Purge” is also a fundraiser for Tacoma Rescue Mission. Bring a new or gently used clothing donation and receive $5 off the $15 ticket price along with some exclusive discounts. Tickets are on sale now at Jewel Day Spa (2501 6th Ave.) and at Vixens (2614 6th Ave.) and will be available at the door. “Purge” will be held at the former Redline space, across from Posh Home (2502 6th Ave.) next to Jewel Day Spa. Must be 18 or older to attend. For more information, call Vixens House of Shoes and Apparel at (253) 272-1412.
