COMING UP ROSES. As an alternative to the standard dinner date this year, couples and loved ones can take part in the second annual Valentine’s Celebration in the Conservatory and enjoy sweet treats and beverages, romantic live music and lovely floral arrangements.

This Valentine’s Day, rather than taking part in the traditional offerings to celebrate love, Metro Parks Tacoma is offering up another option for couples and singles anxious to have a fun, festive night out on the town with their second annual Valentine’s Celebration in the Conservatory event.

This occasion offers attendants a similar event to the Conservatory’s Summer Garden Party series, which took place last July, but allows visitors the chance to see the renowned facility in a different light.

“It’s a unique and nice opportunity to view the Conservatory in the evening and just relax, take in the wonderful fragrances, see the colors…it’s a special treat,” affirmed Mary Anderson, conservatory manager.

The event will feature decadent treats for couples to enjoy and share together such as chocolate covered strawberries and rich truffles courtesy of Affairs Chocolate and Desserts, champagne, wine and non-alcoholic beverage refreshments like hot tea and spiced apple cider.

To set the scene of this romantic day and event, a young, classical guitar player Jucinda Cruz will serenade attendants throughout the evening. A student at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Cruz will be playing for the first time ever in front of an audience at the event.

A door prize will also be up for grabs for visitors in attendance. A blown glass vase created by Hilltop Artists in Residence will be raffled off at 6:30 p.m., but entrants must be present in order to win the gorgeous, red and white-themed piece.

The Conservatory will also be highlighting elements that it does best for the Valentine’s Day event – elegant, elaborate floral displays.

“It’s like we’re having spring come early,” Anderson stated. “Azaleas, tulips, primroses, daffodils and orchids in bloom will be an essential aspect of the event.”

Although alcohol will be served at the event, it is open to people of all ages as there will be drinks for visitors of all ages. The Conservatory’s Gift Shop will also be open late the day of the event for those who will need to take part in some last minute Valentine’s Day shopping.

Valentine’s Celebration in the Conservatory takes place Feb. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the W.W. Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park, located at 316 S. ‘G’ St. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Conservatory, the Metro Parks main office and at the Centre at Norpoint.
