Tacoma Rotary Club #8 recently made an inquiry to the city about the possibility of placing flags representing the nations of Tacoma’s sister ports and cities along Pacific Avenue. City officials expressed interest when discussing this last week, although no formal action has been taken. The club has offered to buy the flags. Who would maintain them, and pay for their eventual replacement, would need to be determined.
Such flags would be ideal for the proposed International Finance Services Area, which would be on Pacific Avenue in the heart of downtown. City leaders envision this as commercial district for firms that do business with clients around the globe, so flags from our city and state’s major trading partners would serve as a celebration of the importance of world trade in Tacoma.
